IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Virat Kohli’s Slow Innings

Former Indian cricket captain, Sunil Gavaskar, known as Little Master, has expressed strong criticism towards Virat Kohli for his slow innings in the IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Virat’s Slow Innings:

Gavaskar pointed out that despite scoring a half-century, Virat Kohli’s innings lacked momentum and a good strike rate. Kohli took 43 balls to score 51 runs, which Gavaskar deemed as below par for a player of Kohli’s caliber. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a higher strike rate, especially in the middle overs of the match.

Gavaskar’s Comments:

In a Star Sports program, Gavaskar emphasized that Kohli’s lack of boundaries until the latter part of his innings was concerning. He stated that when a player like Kohli starts his innings early in the match but fails to accelerate until the 14th or 15th over, it affects the team’s overall performance. Gavaskar suggested that Kohli should have played more aggressively to ensure a better team total.

IPL 2024: Rajat Patidar’s Impact

While Gavaskar criticized Kohli’s innings, he also acknowledged Rajat Patidar’s impressive performance in the same match. Patidar scored a quick half-century in just 20 balls, showcasing aggressive batting with four consecutive sixes off Mayank Markande’s bowling. Gavaskar highlighted Patidar’s contribution, contrasting it with Kohli’s comparatively slower approach.

RCB’s Total:

Despite Kohli’s slow innings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed to post a competitive total of 206 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Cameron Green’s unbeaten knock of 37 runs in 20 balls, along with contributions from other batsmen, including Patidar and Swapnil Singh, helped RCB reach the 200-run mark.

IPL 2024 Match Dynamics:

With Sunrisers Hyderabad’s playing XI led by Pat Cummins and RCB’s playing XI led by Faf du Plessis, the match witnessed contrasting innings from both teams. While RCB’s batting lineup struggled with Kohli’s slower innings, Hyderabad faced challenges in chasing down the target set by RCB, ultimately leading to RCB’s victory.
