Ishan Kishan’s Comeback to Domestic Cricket
Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper-batsman, is set to return to domestic cricket, playing for Jharkhand. After being left out of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s 2023-24 central contract due to his absence from domestic matches, Kishan is now included in the 25 pre-season probable announced by the Jharkhand State Cricket Association ( JSCA). The left-hander, who was part of the Indian team for the Africa Test series last year but withdrew due to personal reasons, last played for India in November 2023. According to Cricbuzz, Kishan has declared his availability for Jharkhand’s upcoming season and may even captain the team.

This year has been challenging for Kishan. He was dropped from the BCCI’s central contracts along with Shreyas Iyer and did not participate in Ranji Trophy matches despite not playing for the national team. After being left out of the contract list, Kishan returned to competitive cricket, starting with the 18th DY Patil T20 Cup 2024, and then played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. In 14 IPL matches, Kishan scored 320 runs at an average of 22.86 and a strike rate of 148.84

Ishan Kishan’s Performance and Future Prospects
In T20Is, Ishan Kishan has played 32 matches, scoring 796 runs at an average of 25.7 and a strike rate of 124.4. In ODIs, he has played 27 games, amassing 933 runs at an average of 42.4 and a strike rate of 102.2, including one century and seven half-centuries. Kishan has also achieved the milestone of scoring a double-century in ODIs. In Tests, he has scored 78 runs in two matches at an average of 78.0 and a strike rate of 85.7. Currently, the Indian team is on a tour of Sri Lanka, and Kishan is not part of the squad. His return to domestic cricket is a significant step as he aims to regain his place in the national team.
