Top-order batsman Tom Banton, who can also keep wickets, has been called up in Bethellβs place. However, he is expected to join the team on Monday, February 10, and will be available to play only the third ODI in Ahmedabad.
Bethell played three T20Is in the five-match series against India but failed to impress. However, he did well in the first ODI in Nagpur as he scored a spirited half-century and also took the wicket of the in-form Shreyas Iyer.
With a place in Englandβs provisional squad, Bethell will hope to recover in time for the Champions Trophy. The Three Lions have three more days to announce their final 15-man squad for the marquee tournament.

Meanwhile, Bantonβs last ODI was in August 2020. Most recently, he had a sensational innings in the 2025 ILT20, in which he scored 493 runs in 11 innings at an astonishing average of 54.78 and an impressive strike rate of 151.69.
