Actually, according to ESPNcricinfo’s report, the Pakistan Cricket Board wants to sack Test coach Jason Gillespie and make Aaqib Javed the captain of all formats. However, as soon as this report came out.
The PCB called it wrong and said that Gillespie would remain the coach of the team on the South Africa tour. However, the board did not clarify what would happen to Gillespie after the South Africa tour. His contract with PCB is till 2026.
The Pakistan Cricket Board wrote in clarification, “PCB has strongly denied this news. As reported earlier, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan team for the two Test matches against South Africa.
Aaqib Javed: Leading the Race for New Coach
After Gary Kirsten’s resignation, the PCB sent Jason Gillespie as Pakistan’s white ball coach on the Australia tour, where Pakistan defeated the hosts in the ODI series after 22 years.
According to reports, the PCB wanted to make Gillespie the white ball coach along with the red ball, but for this, there will be no change in his salary and contract. Gillespie turned down this offer, after which the PCB started looking for a new coach for all formats.
In such a situation, the names of Azhar Mahmood and Saqlain Mushtaq were also considered, but both of these names did not get much support in the PCB’s advisory circle. After this, the name of Aaqib Javed came up in this race for the coach.
