Root broke Sachin Tendulkar’s big record during the fourth innings of this match played in Christchurch. England needed just 104 runs to win. Playing his first match, Jacob Bethell scored an unbeaten 50 and Root scored an unbeaten 23 to give England the win. England has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series with this win.

With an innings of 23 runs, Root has broken the big record of Sachin Tendulkar. He has become the batsman who has scored the most runs in the fourth innings in Test matches.

Root was playing his 150th Test. Now he has become number-1 in scoring the most runs in the fourth innings. Before him, this record was in the name of Sachin. Sachin has scored 1625 runs in the fourth innings of Test matches. Root now has 1630 runs to his name. Former England captain Alastair Cook and former South Africa captain Graeme Smith are jointly at number three with 1611 runs.

Root Sets New Fourth Innings Record

Root could not even open the account in the first innings. But in the second innings, he made a big record in his name even after scoring less. In this match, the England team completely dominated the hosts.

The New Zealand team was successful in scoring 348 runs in the first innings. England had taken a lead of 151 runs by scoring 499 runs in the first innings. After this, New Zealand scored 254 runs in the second innings and gave England a target of 104 runs which they achieved easily.
