ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year: Sri Lanka cricket team’s star batsman Kamindu Mendis has been successful in winning the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award for the year 2024.
Kamindu Mendis Wins ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2024
This left-handed batsman’s performance was amazing in Test cricket. Last year, he became the joint third-fastest player to score 1000 runs in Test cricket. The 26-year-old player did this feat in just 13 innings.
So, during the year 2024, Kamindu participated in a total of 34 international matches for Sri Lanka, in which he scored a total of 1458 runs at an average of 47.03. During this, four half-centuries and five centuries were seen from the bat of the emerging player.

Kamindu Reflects on His Journey
At the same time, after winning the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, in a recent interview with the ICC, Kamindu Mendis said – I am really happy to be the emerging player of the year. It means a lot to me. I want to thank my family, my teammates and my coaches.
The innings I am most proud of last year was my century against England because in England you cannot score a century easily. So, it was good hard work so I think this is my best century of last year.
Mendis further said – I have worked hard in the nets, practice and training over the last few years. As a team, we have worked hard over the last few years. Last year we had some great performances and big wins.
A Rising Star for Sri Lanka
It is worth noting that Kamindu Mendis made his T20 debut against England in the year 2018. Since then, he has scored a total of 381 runs in 23 T20 matches played.
At the same time, since his ODI debut in the year 2019, he has played a total of 17 matches in which he scored 344 runs. However, the year 2024 was the best year of the player’s Test career, in which he performed brilliantly.
