South Africa recently made an impressive comeback, defeating Australia 3-2 in a 5-match ODI series after an initial 0-2 deficit. Pietersen believes that South Africa’s excellent performance makes them a strong contender for this year’s World Cup title.

Kevin Pietersen shared his views on the World Cup through a tweet on his social media account on Monday, September 18. He wrote,

“South Africa has emerged as a contender for the Cricket World Cup title after their victory against Australia. Klaasen is a significant asset for South Africa.”

He also shared his thoughts on other teams in the competition. According to Pietersen, India, Pakistan, England, and Australia are also strong contenders for the World Cup. He added,

“With their recent victory in the Asia Cup and the advantage of playing on home turf, India is a strong contender for the title. Pakistan always poses a threat, and England is just slightly behind India in terms of favorites. As for Australia, they will be in contention as well.”

The 2023 World Cup, hosted by India, is scheduled to commence on October 5. The opening match will feature the defending champions, England, facing the previous World Cup runners-up, New Zealand, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second match, scheduled for October 6, will see Pakistan taking on the Netherlands. South Africa will kick off their World Cup campaign by playing against Sri Lanka on October 7. India’s first match, against Australia, will be held on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
