Venkatesh Iyer Stuns Fans with Record Bid in IPL Mega Auction.

Venkatesh Iyer has been included in the squad of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021. He scored a lot of runs this season, due to which Kolkata managed to reach the final. He has played many great innings at crucial times for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Iyer performed brilliantly in the IPL 2024 tournament and scored 370 runs and in the 2023 tournament too, Southpaw batted very well and scored 403 runs. Despite his consistent performances, Kolkata Knight Riders released Iyer before the IPL Mega Auction

However, in the mega action, Kolkata Knight Riders showed great enthusiasm in Venkatesh Iyer. When Iyer’s name came up in the IPL Mega Auction, there was an intense bidding war ensued between Kolkata Knight Riders and RCB, in which Kolkata Knight Riders bought Venkatesh Iyer with a whopping price of 23.75 crores.

There are two big reasons behind such an intense bid for Venkatesh Iyer

  1. Venkatesh Iyer is not only a brilliant batsman but also a reliable part-time bowler who can play the role of the sixth bowler in the team.
  2. Venkatesh Iyer is capable of batting at any number. KKR has utilised him as both a finisher and a No. 3 batter, showcasing his adaptability.

Iyer Sets IPL Auction Record for Indian All-Rounders

Looking at the price of Venkatesh Iyer, it seems that this was the internal plan of Kolkata Knight Riders, although as an all-rounder, this is the biggest price ever paid in IPL history. Earlier, Punjab Kings had bought Sam Curran for Rs 18.5 crores.

Venkatesh Iyer for-₹23-75-crores has now become the third most expensive player to be sold in the IPL Mega Auction 2025.
