Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the IPL 2024 final, securing their third IPL title. The final, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, saw Hyderabad setting a modest target of 114 runs after being bowled out for 113. KKR, led by Shreyas Iyer, chased down the target in just 10.3 overs, losing only two wickets in the process. This victory marks KKR’s first IPL title win since 2014, reinforcing their legacy in the tournament.
Pat Cummins Praises KKR Bowling Attack
Following the defeat, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins acknowledged the formidable performance of KKR’s bowlers. Cummins specifically praised his former teammate, Mitchell Starc, for his impactful spell. “Kolkata bowled brilliantly. Former colleague Starsy (Mitchell Starc) returns. Tonight we failed miserably,” said Cummins. He highlighted that KKR’s bowling performance was reminiscent of their previous matches, making it difficult for Hyderabad to set a competitive target. Cummins added, “KKR bowled like Ahmedabad. It was a difficult pitch. If we had scored 160 we would have stayed in the match. There were many positives in this season. We reached 250 runs 3 times. It takes skill to get here. It was a good season.”

Hyderabad’s Struggles and Missed Opportunities
Sunrisers Hyderabad had high hopes under Pat Cummins’ leadership, reaching the IPL final for the first time since 2018. The team showed remarkable prowess throughout the season, particularly with their explosive batting performances that saw them reach the 250-run mark on three occasions. However, their batsmen faltered at the crucial moment in the final. The opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who had been instrumental in the league, struggled against KKR’s disciplined bowling attack. Cummins noted the team’s inconsistencies and expressed hope for better performance in the future.
