BCCI Imposes Fines for Slow Over Rates

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fined several IPL team captains for slow over rates, emphasizing the importance of maintaining match pace.

Captains Penalized

  • Rituraj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KL Rahul of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) each received fines of Rs 12 lakh for their teams’ slow over rate in their recent match. This marked the first offense of the season for both teams, resulting in the minimum punishment under IPL regulations.
  • Hardik Pandya, captain of Mumbai Indians (MI), was also fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over rate in a match against Punjab Kings. Despite Mumbai’s victory, Pandya’s team faced penalties for not maintaining the required pace during the IPL game.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer incurred a similar fine of Rs 12 lakh for his team’s slow over rate against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Despite KKR’s high-scoring performance, Iyer’s team faced consequences for their sluggish bowling rate.

  • Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson was also fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over rate in a match against Gujarat Titans (GT). Despite a competitive match, Samson’s team faced penalties for their tardy bowling pace.

Repeat Offenses

  • Delhi Capitals’ (DC) captain Rishabh Pant faced a more significant fine of Rs 24 lakh for consecutive slow over rates in matches against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Alongside Pant, other players from DC’s playing XI were also fined 25% of their match fee for the offense.
  • Shubman Gill, captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), received a Rs 12 lakh fine for his team’s slow over rate against CSK. Despite facing penalties, GT experienced a loss against CSK, highlighting the consequences of not maintaining match pace.
