Mahela Jayawardene Confesses: Mumbai’s Leadership Change Was a Tough Decision!

Mumbai : Rohit Sharma’s in place the decision to reinstate the captaincy of Mumbai Indians was a difficult one and was taken with the future in mind. MI’s Global Cricket Head Mahela Jayawardene has admitted that the issue is also emotional.

As Pandya is returning to the Mumbai team as the captain, the fans also criticized the team harshly. Speaking to Geo Cinemas, Jayawardene said, “It was a difficult decision. He was also emotional. It’s natural for fans to react. But the team has to take such decisions.”

Stating that this decision was taken only after many discussions, Mahela added, “As we always play for the title, we want to create a tradition. People may think that emotionally it is not the right decision, but we had to take it.

Hardik was in Mumbai’s dressing room for many years. There is nothing new in this. We know what he can do. Hardik will have an opportunity to move forward based on experience.

“Rohit’s presence in the team is essential to guide the next generation. He was a brilliant captain. I worked closely with Rohit. He created a great legacy for the Mumbai team.

Sachin handed over leadership from himself to someone else. The team was moving in the right direction at that time. This is what will happen after Rohit takes the lead to Hardik,” said Mahela.
