Australian player Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from the ODI format of cricket. However, he will continue to be a part of the Australian team in the T20 format. He has been included in the preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This mega tournament will be held in Pakistan and UAE later this month.
With the announcement of his retirement, it became clear that he would not participate in the ICC mega tournament. As a result, he will not be included in the final squad. The last date for the announcement of the team for all the teams has been fixed as February 12.

Reacting to his retirement decision, Stoinis said,
โHis journey with the Australian team in the ODI cricket format has been incredible. I express gratitude for the wonderful moments spent in green and gold. The decision to retire was not easy for me at all. But for the time being, staying away from the ODI format, I have to focus on the next chapter of my career. For which this decision and time is right.โ

Stoinis has made an incomparable contribution in all formats of cricket. With his excellent performance, he has proved to be a valuable player for the Australian team. Along with aggressive batting, he can also perform well with the ball. Recently, he played for Durban SuperGiants in South Africaโs ongoing T20 franchise competition. He was troubled by a slight hamstring injury while bowling. Due to this, he could not perform at his best. He has played 74 ODIs so far. He was also a part of the 2023 World Cup-winning team.
