Moeen Reflects on His Decision
Moeen Ali, now 37, shared that being excluded from the Australia series was a sign to step aside and allow younger players to take over. He said, “I’ve played a lot of cricket for England. It’s time to make space for the next generation. The board conveyed the same to me.” He also emphasized that even small contributions, like scoring 20-30 runs, are important, but people often forget them.

A Remarkable Career
Moeen Ali debuted for England in 2014 and went on to become a crucial all-rounder. He played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20 Internationals. Throughout his career, Moeen scored 6,678 runs with 8 centuries and 28 fifties and took 366 wickets across all formats. Though his test career had ups and downs, he made a lasting impact in ODIs, largely thanks to captain Eoin Morgan, who gave him more opportunities during his time with the team.
Eoin Morgan gave more chances
When playing for England for the first time, you don’t know how many matches you will play. Almost 300 matches is a big and proud thing for me. In the beginning, I was moving around the test. Eoin Morgan was given a chance in ODIs when the England team was on his shoulders. Moeen Ali has also said that there was a different kind of fun in the Test but there was no opportunity there.
