Indian team’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has once again been injured at the National Cricket Academy. According to latest reports Mohammed Shami’s knees were swollen.
Mohammed Shami’s injury is a big blow to the Indian cricket team. All the players of the team were excited about the return of their main fast bowler to the team. Due to the injury, everyone’s wait may be longer. There is no doubt over Shami’s chances of joining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Mohammed Shami injured during rehabilitation
Shami was injured during rehabilitation. Mohammed Shami has been at the NCA since Achilles tendon surgery in London earlier in the year. Many of his practice videos also surfaced in which it was clearly visible that he is ready to return. He was seen bowling with full force on the net.
But at the moment, due to the injury, he may be out of the New Zealand series. He may have to stay out of the cricket field for 6 to 8 weeks. The three-match Test series between India and New Zealand will begin from October 16. Mohammad was on the road to recovery. But due to a recent knee injury, it may take time. The medical team is examining the injury.
Indian fast bowling suffered a big setback.
It was expected that Mohammed Shami would return to the team from Ranji Trophy. He was expected to play one or two matches for Ranji team Bengal before returning to Tests. He was also supposed to be a part of at least one Test match against New Zealand, which will start in Perth on 22 November. However, now all plans have gone awry. There is doubt over his achievement in the Border Gavaskar Trophy as well.
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami is the leading fast bowler of the Indian team. Mohammed Shami played his last match in the ODI World Cup 2023. Since then he has not played any professional matches. Despite the Achilles tendon injury in the World Cup, he continued to play in this tournament with pain. This resulted in serious consequences. He had to undergo surgery in London in February 2024. He did not even become a part of IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024. The NCA medical team kept him under their observation. The medical team hoped that he would be fully fit for the five-match Test series against Australia at the end of the year.
Apart from Mohammed Shami, the NCA medical team is also keeping an eye on the other fast bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah is given rest from time to time to reduce his workload. The Test series against Bangladesh was Bumrah’s first international match after the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
