Mumbai – The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 was concluded a few days ago. Australia won the World Cup for the sixth time after defeating Team India in the World Cup final.
Team India won 10 matches in a row and reached the finals. But with one defeat, Team India had to lose the World Cup. However, Team India had one-sided victories over all the teams in the previous 10 matches.
Bowlers played a decisive role in the victory of Team India. Mohammad Shami also performed remarkably for Team India. Shami’s performance has been recommended by the BCCI for the prestigious Arjuna Award. The Arjuna Award is the second highest award in the field of sports.
Mohammed Shami’s name is at the top of the race for the Arjuna Award. According to ANI, the BCCI has recommended to the Sports Ministry that Shami be awarded the Arjuna Award.
Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s name was not included in this list. But after BCCI‘s request, Arjun’s name has been included in that list. However, no official announcement has been made anywhere.
Shami’s performance in the World Cup –
Mohammad Shami took the most wickets in the 13th ODI World Cup with 24 wickets. Shami achieved this feat in just 7 matches. Also, Shami single-handedly turned the match against New Zealand by taking 7 wickets.
Shami did this performance in the World Cup semi-final. Due to this decisive performance by Shami, Team India made a comeback in the match and won the match.
Cricket career of Mohammed Shami –
Mohammad Shami made his international debut in 2013. Shami has so far represented Team India in 64 Tests, 101 ODIs and 23 T20Is. Shami has taken 229 wickets in Tests, 195 in ODIs and a total of 24 wickets in T20Is.
Meanwhile, Team India will play a 2-match Test series against South Africa. Mohammad Shami can make a comeback in Team India from this series.
The first match of the series will be played at Centurion on December 26. The second match will be played in Cape Town from January 3.
