Defending champions Mumbai, led by Ajinkya Rahane, made a strong comeback on the third day in the opening match against Baroda. After scoring 290 runs in the first innings, Baroda restricted Mumbai to 214 runs. This gave Baroda a decisive lead of 76 runs in the first innings. Baroda had a chance to build another big score with this lead. But the Mumbai bowlers stopped Baroda within 190 runs. Mumbai bowled out Baroda for 185 runs in 60.3 overs. So Mumbai has got a challenge of 262 runs for victory.
Only five batsmen from Baroda could reach double figures in the second innings. Captain Krunal Pandya contributed the most with 55 runs. Mahesh Peethia scored 40 runs. Atit Sheth contributed 26 runs and Shivalik Sharma 13 runs. While Jyotsanil scored 10 runs. While others knelt in front of the Mumbai bowlers. From Mumbai Tanush Kotian took 5 wickets giving 61 runs in 21 overs. Himanshu Singh showed the trio off the field. While Shardul Thakur and Mohit Awasthi both contributed 1 wicket each to their teammates.
Meanwhile, before that, Mumbai scored 214 runs in reply to Baroda’s 290 runs. Ayush Mhatre scored the highest 52 runs in the first innings from Mumbai. Hardik Tamore contributed 40, Captain Ajinkya Rahane 29, Shardul Thakur 27, Shams Mulani 16 and Mohit Awasthi 14. Siddesh Lad scored 8 Prithvi Shaw scored 7 and Tanush Kotian scored 1. Shreyas Iyer could not even crack a pumpkin. Bhargava Bhatt took the maximum of 4 wickets from Baroda. Abhimanyu Singh dismissed all three. Mahesh Peethia took 2 wickets. Captain Krunal Pandya took 1 wicket.
