Optimizing Hardik Pandya’s Performance: BCCI’s Tailored 18-Week Program

The Indian cricket team has been plagued by injuries. Today, one player is injured; tomorrow, another player suffers an injury. Hardik Pandya, who had recently returned to form after recovering from an injury, faced another setback during the World Cup.

He had to withdraw from the One World Cup and subsequently missed the Twenty20 series against Australia, as well as the tour of South Africa, among other events. His comeback is eagerly awaited by everyone.

During the World Cup match against Bangladesh, Hardik had to exit the tournament due to a sprained leg.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) have designed a special 18-week high-performance program for Hardik, focusing on long-term goals.

Hardik’s importance to the team is underscored, considering the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup and the 2026 World Cup. Hence, there won’t be a rush to include him in bilateral series; the emphasis is on his fitness and preparedness.

The NCA has meticulously prepared a daily program for Hardik spanning 18 weeks. It encompasses various aspects of fitness, including cardio, strength training, functional exercises, and, importantly, adequate rest and recovery. The clear objective is to prepare Hardik for the forthcoming challenges.

The approach adopted by BCCI and NCA is not unprecedented. Previously, individual programs were devised for players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul during their periods of injury.

Each regimen is tailored to meet the specific needs of the player, taking into account factors such as playing conditions, skill demands, and upcoming commitments.

Sources have indicated that Hardik’s current injury is not linked to his previous back injury, for which he underwent surgery in 2019.
