Pakistan Men’s Team Selector Mohammad Yousuf Resigns Due to Personal Reasons

Mohammad Yousuf Resigns

The Pakistan team, led by Shan Masood, recently suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bangladesh, after which Yousuf resigned from his position. Yousuf had also selected the team for the upcoming Test match against England on October 7. On Sunday, Mohammad Yousuf stepped down as the selector of the Pakistan men’s team due to ‘personal reasons.’

Yousuf, who was part of the selection group for the T20 World Cup, resigned from his post for personal reasons. He was also part of the panel that selected the team for the men’s T20 World Cup, where Pakistan failed to progress beyond the group stage. In July, Yousuf was retained in the revised panel along with Asad Shafiq.

Mohammad Yousuf resigned from his post due to personal reasons.

Announcing his decision via an Instagram post, Yousuf said, “I am resigning from my post on personal grounds. Working with the team has been an incredible and honorable experience for me, I enjoyed serving the Pakistan Cricket Board. I am proud to have helped nurture the talent of our players. I have full faith in my team that they will continue to excel in this great game.”

Yousuf faced criticism after announcing the team for the first Test match against England. Veteran batsman Ahmed Shehzad questioned Yousuf’s decision to exclude Kamran Ghulam, who had scored two centuries in the Pakistan Champions Cup. Shehzad said, “How will you justify not selecting Kamran and Sahibzada Farhan in the team? What wrong did they do? You made this decision because Babar bats at that position. Yousuf has mostly left his decisions to two or three players.” He further asked, “Yousuf is the selector and he is selecting this team. Give me a logical explanation for why Kamran Ghulam was left out?”

The Pakistan team has not been performing well. Currently, they have won two out of seven matches in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) and, with 16 points, are in eighth place. The Pakistan team, led by Babar Azam, has lost all five Test matches in this cycle, raising questions about the working style of the Pakistan team management.
