Several star players, who idled away time before the commencement of the IPL, have been mandated to engage with state (Ranji) teams as a disciplinary measure. Consequently, these players will be observed participating in the upcoming round of the Ranji Trophy. Recently, it appeared that many players had effectively shunned Ranji cricket, despite their declarations to the contrary.

The BCCI and the National Selection Committee have made a firm decision in this matter. The directive, conveyed to several players via email on Monday, pertains to those who are presently not part of the national team or are undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. These players have been instructed to join their respective state squads for the forthcoming round of Ranji Trophy matches, commencing on February 16, with immediate effect.
A BCCI official stated, “Players cannot solely prioritize international cricket or the IPL; they must make themselves available for domestic cricket and fulfill their commitments with their respective state teams.”
To Ishan Kishan Strong Message – The BCCI’s new rule requires players like Ishan Kishan to prioritize domestic cricket over IPL preparations. Ishan, who’s been training for the IPL in Baroda, has faced criticism for skipping Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy matches. Despite the backlash, he remains focused on the IPL.
Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar too Not playing Ranji – Indeed, this decision extends beyond Ishan Kishan. It involves players like Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar, among others, who have been inactive in Ranji Trophy matches. Shreyas Iyer is also subject to this strict action after being dropped from the national team due to poor form.
