Rahul Dravid Reflects on T20 World Cup Victory
Rahul Dravid, known for his calm demeanor, surprised many when he celebrated India’s T20 World Cup victory with uncharacteristic enthusiasm. Dravid, who led the team as head coach, expressed immense joy after India secured the title by defeating South Africa in the final. This win marked India’s first ICC trophy in 13 years and was a significant achievement for Dravid, who had previously seen his team fall short in other major tournaments.
Dravid shared his thoughts on the celebration with Star Sports, acknowledging the pressure the team had been under. “We were coming close to a big trophy many times. We reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, played the final of the World Test Championship, and were also in the final of the ODI World Cup. But our team was not able to cross the last line to get the trophy,” he said. Dravid joked about his son possibly being puzzled by his rare display of excitement, adding, “My son must be looking at me and thinking, ‘I don’t know what my father is doing.'”

Challenges on the South Africa Tour
Rahul Dravid reflected on his first major challenge as India’s head coach—a difficult tour of South Africa in 2021. India had never won a Test series in South Africa, and despite winning the first Test in Centurion, the team faced significant hurdles.
“The South Africa tour was a very difficult tour for us. We won the first Test, but the remaining two matches were very close. Many senior players were not present, and South Africa played much better in the fourth innings,” Rahul Dravid recalled. He described this period as one of the most challenging in his coaching career but also highlighted the valuable lessons learned.

He praised their humility and dedication to the game, noting that their willingness to learn and improve made them superstars. “Working with Rohit has been a great experience for me. He is a great person and captain. All the senior players are very honest and humble towards their work,” Dravid said. He emphasized that despite their superstar status, these players have no ego and are always striving to better themselves, making it easier for him to manage the team.
Rahul Dravid’s reflections highlight the ups and downs of his coaching journey, his joy in India’s recent success, and the deep respect he has for the players he works with.
