Ranji Trophy 2024: The performance of the Delhi team in the four matches played in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 has been shameful. In the first and second matches, they somehow escaped defeat from Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu. After this, the team got the first win of the season by 10 wickets against Assam in the third match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
At the same time, in the fourth match, Chandigarh handed over a crushing defeat by nine wickets. With one win, one loss, two draws and 11 points in four matches, Delhi has slipped to the fourth position in the points table. At the same time, Chandigarh has reached the first position with 19 points. This defeat can spoil Delhi’s plans to enter the semi-finals.
Leadership and Team Challenges
After removing Yash Dhul from the captaincy, the reins of the team have been handed over to Himmat Singh. Himmat is neither able to score runs with the bat nor win the team under his captaincy. Many changes have been made in the team under the leadership of coach Sarandeep. Mayank Rawat was allowed to make his debut in the match against Tamil Nadu.
But, he could not even open his account. There are many players in the team who are not able to play any role in the team’s victory. Under Gambhir’s captaincy, Delhi won the title by winning the match against Uttar Pradesh at Wankhede by nine wickets in 2007-8.
16 years have passed since then. But, Delhi’s situation is going from bad to worse. However, the Delhi team managed to enter the final of the 2017-18 season. But, could not win the title. Rishabh Pant has also been the captain of the Ranji team. He also failed to win the title. Apart from this, Navdeep Saini, Nitish Rana and Pradeep Awana also played for Delhi. But, there has been no improvement in the performance of the team even today.
