Baroda Defeats Mumbai in Ranji Trophy Opener
In the Ranji Trophy 2024-2025 tournament, Baroda’s team lost to Mumbai in the first match. The coin toss fell in favor of Baroda. Baroda captain Krunal Pandya decided to bat immediately. Baroda faced 103.1 overs in the first innings. Initially, the Baroda team was on the back foot. But then he made a tremendous comeback in the middle order and scored 290 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. Wicketkeeper Mitesh Patel and Atit Sheth put on a formidable partnership. The two put on a 130-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Mitesh Patel scored 86 runs, while Atit Sheth scored 66 runs.

Mumbai Struggles in Reply
Chasing these runs, the Mumbai team faltered. Prithvi Shaw could not do anything special. Returned to the tent for just 7 runs. Ayush Mhatre and Hardik Tamore played well. 63 runs partnership for the second wicket. Ayush shared a partnership of 52 runs, while Hardik Tamore shared a partnership of 40 runs. Mumbai’s innings collapsed after this pair was dismissed. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was able to score 29 runs. Shreyas Iyer could not even open his account. Mumbai could manage only 214 runs in the first innings. So Baroda had a lead of 76 runs in the first innings.

Baroda Secures Victory in the Second Innings
In the second innings, Krunal Pandya and Mahesh Pithia saved Baroda’s innings. Krunal Pandya scored 55 and Mahesh Pithia scored 40 runs. He also scored 76 runs in the first innings and 185 runs in the second innings. With this, Baroda scored 261 runs and challenged 262 runs for victory. Mumbai did not meet this challenge. Except for Siddhesh Lad, none of the batsmen could perform well. Siddesh Lad scored 59 runs. The entire team was bowled out for 177 runs. With this, Baroda won the first match by 84 runs. With this win, Baroda’s account has lost 6 points. While Mumbai has a sloppy style the net run rate has been affected.
