Team India’s Squad for Sri Lanka Tour Announced
Team India is set to depart for the Sri Lanka tour on Monday. Ahead of this, the BCCI has announced the Indian squad, which notably does not include Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is no longer part of India’s ODI squad and had previously announced his retirement from T20 international cricket. Gautam Gambhir has taken over the captaincy of Team India, and as head coach, he has replaced Jadeja with Washington Sundar. Gambhir sees a promising future in Sundar, who has been included in the Sri Lanka tour. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also play in the India-Sri Lanka ODI series, but Jadeja has been left out.

Ravindra Jadeja’s Decline in Form
Ravindra Jadeja played his last ODI for Team India in November 2023. While he has delivered stellar performances for the Indian team in many matches, his recent performances have been subpar. This has led to younger players being considered for his spot. The Indian team is now preparing for the Champions Trophy 2025 and the upcoming T20 World Cup, leading to Jadeja’s exclusion from the squad.

Opportunities for New Players
Washington Sundar, a talented all-rounder, has been given a chance in the ODI squad. Sundar has played 19 ODIs for India, taking 18 wickets and scoring 265 runs in 11 innings. Along with Sundar, Axar Patel has also been included in the Sri Lanka tour. Axar is an experienced player and is currently in good form. However, due to Ravindra Jadeja’s long-standing presence in the team, Axar hasn’t had many opportunities in the squad. He was given a chance in the T20 World Cup and performed well.
