Although Chennai failed to qualify for the playoffs, Gaikwad impressed a lot with his captaincy, but there is still discussion among fans and all sections whether Dhoni will play for Chennai next season or not. Retention Rules and Mega Auction

The BCCI has yet to clarify how many players each franchise can retain for the IPL mega auction early next year. According to the report, MS Dhoni can play next season only if the BCCI allows each franchise to retain 5-6 players

The players who are most expected to be retained by the Chennai management are captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Mathisha Theekshana, and Shivam Dubey. However, the order of these retentions may vary. According to a report a few days ago, all the franchise owners had demanded more players from the BCCI to retain, but the board’s view is that if this happens, it will reduce the players in the auction and will also affect the excitement of the auction
