Following their victory in the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma shared insights into the team’s readiness for the World Cup. Some Indian players missed the Asia Cup due to injuries, highlighting the need for a strong and fit squad for the upcoming World Cup. Rohit Sharma emphasized that the team’s fitness is a top priority.

Rohit Sharma stated that both all-rounders Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer will regain their fitness before the start of the October World Cup. However, he acknowledged that the spin-bowling all-rounder might need a week to ten days to recover from his injury, expressing hope for a swift recovery. Additionally, he provided updates on Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin, stating that they are “99 percent fit.”

Shreyas Iyer was unable to participate in the final match of the Asia Cup due to a back spasm, but Rohit Sharma confirmed that his condition is improving, saying,

“Shreyas was unavailable for the final due to certain criteria. I believe he has completed most of his rehabilitation, and I must say he is now 99 percent fit.”

Addressing the replacement of Washington Sundar with Axar Patel in the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma noted that veteran spinner Ashwin is still in contention for a spot on the World Cup team, despite not being called up as Axar’s replacement.
