Ruturaj Gaikwad's Exclusion from Bangladesh Series Was Decided Four Days Ago

Fans Shocked by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Omission from T20I Squad

Cricket fans are expressing surprise as young wicketkeeper-batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad of Team India was not given a chance in the 3-match series against Bangladesh. The BCCI announced the 15-member squad for this T20i series on Saturday, September 28. It is also said that BCCI deliberately ignored Ruturaj’s name in this team. Currently, Team India is playing the second and final match of the Test series at home against Bangladesh in Kanpur. Team India will then play a T20i series against Bangladesh from October 6 to 12.

Reasons Behind the Decision

It would not be wrong to say that BCCI has already decided not to give Ruturaj Gaikwad a chance in the T20I series against Bangladesh. We will also know the reason behind not giving Ruturaj a chance. Irani Trophy match will be played between Mumbai vs Rest of India from 1st to 5th October. The match will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. BCCI announced the squad for the Irani Trophy on 24th September, 4 days before. BCCI gave Ruturaj the captaincy of Rest of India in this Irani Trophy. The opening match of the T20i series will be played in Gwalior on October 6.

Now, even if Ruturaj Gaikwad had been selected, he would have had to travel to Gwalior from Lucknow on the second day of the Irani Trophy match for the first match. The distance between Lucknow and Gwalior is 338.5 km. The time for this journey is expected to be six and a half hours. Playing the next day after such a long journey becomes a challenge for the players. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that it was clear then that Ruturaj would not be in the first match.

Had the selection committee decided, Ruturaj Gaikwad could have been given a chance in the last 2 matches. BCCI could have announced such a squad for the first match and the remaining 2 matches. But BCCI announced the team only once without doing so. Therefore, netizens have criticized the selection committee on social media for not giving Ruturaj a chance.
