SA20 2025 Prize Money: MI Cape Town won the third edition of SA20 2025, beating two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final by 76 runs on Saturday, February 8, at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. After several riveting encounters throughout the season, the final turned out to be a one-sided affair as Cape Town dominated proceedings on the big occasion.
MI Cape Town Lifts SA20 2025 Trophy
MI Cape Town finished at the top of the table at the end of the league phase. In Qualifier 1, they made light work of Paarl Royals to sail into the finals. Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first in the summit clash. Ryan Rickelton played a fine cameo at the top of the order.
Connor Esterhuizen also contributed nicely with a 26-ball 39. At the backend of the innings, Dewald Brevis played a blinder of a knock as his 18-ball 38 propelled Cape Town to a commendable total of 181/8 in 20 overs. Marco Jansen, Richard Gleeson, and Liam Dawson bagged two wickets each.
In reply, Sunrisers lost two wickets inside the first three overs. Tom Abell and Tony de Zorzi tried to resurrect the innings with a 57-run stand but they couldn’t up the ante.
The two set batters were dismissed in the 10th and 11th overs respectively, and everything went downhill from that point for the Sunrisers. The Aiden Markram-led side was eventually bowled out for 105 in 18.4 overs.
Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for Cape Town as he finished with figures of 4/25 in 3.4 overs. Trent Boult and George Linde also contributed by taking two wickets apiece. The former conceded just nine runs in his four overs and won the Player of the Match award.
