In the final match played in Johannesburg, MI Cape Town batted first and scored 181 runs, losing 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team was all out for 105 runs in 18.4 overs. With this, Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s dream of a title hat-trick remained unfulfilled.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who came out to chase the target of 182 runs, got off to a bad start due to fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Trent Bolt. Rabada got opener David Bedingham (5) caught by Linde while Bolt got Jordan Harman (1) caught by wicketkeeper Rickleton.

Rashid Khan’s Smart Captaincy and MI’s Bowling Attack

After losing two wickets for 8 runs, Tony De Georgi (26) and Tom Abell (30) tried to handle the innings. Both added 57 runs for the third wicket. Then George Linde broke this partnership by getting Abell caught by wicketkeeper Abell. From here Eastern Cape’s innings faltered. Rashid Khan’s brilliant bowling changes kept working.

Captain Rashid Khan soon got opener Tony De Georgi out LBW and gave the fourth blow to Sunrisers. George Linde broke the back of Eastern Cape by getting captain Aiden Markram (6) caught out by Rabada. From here, the team had no hope of coming back and collapsed for 105 runs.

Kagiso Rabada took four wickets for 25 runs in his spell of 3.4 overs for MI Cape Town. Trent Bolt and George Linde got two wickets each. Rashid Khan and Corbin Bosch got one wicket each.

MI Cape Town’s Strong Batting Performance

Earlier, MI, who came to bat after winning the toss, got a strong start with a partnership of 51 runs between Rassie van der Dussen (23) and Ryan Rickleton (33). Craig Overton gave the first blow to MI by getting Rickleton caught out by Dawson. Then Gleeson did not let Reeza Hendricks even open his account, which got him caught out by Simlen.

Dawson gave MI the third blow by stumping Dusan. Then Connor Esterhuizen (39), George Linde (20), Dewald Brevis (38) and Delano Potgieter (13*) played short but useful innings to take MI Cape Town to a respectable score.

For Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Marco Jansen, Richard Gleeson and Liam Dawson got two wickets each. Craig Overton and Aiden Markram got one wicket each.
