Sarfaraz Khan Injury Scare: Set to Play in First Test Despite Elbow Issue

Sarfaraz Khan injury: Middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan suffered an elbow injury while batting in the nets during India’s practice session at the WACA on Thursday but did not need an MRI.

Sarfaraz’s Injury During Practice Session

A video posted by ‘Fox Cricket’ shows Mumbai’s Sarfaraz holding his right hand while leaving the nets. He looked a bit uncomfortable while returning. However, it has been learned that the injury is not serious and the batsman did not need an MRI.

Sarfaraz can play in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth as there is uncertainty over Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s playing in the first Test. Rohit is still in Mumbai for the birth of his second child.

Possible Line-Up Changes if Rohit Sharma Misses First Test

If Rohit is not available for the first match of the series, then Lokesh Rahul can be asked to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which will create a place for Sarfaraz in the middle order.

Sarfaraz made it to the Indian team due to his excellent performance in domestic cricket and also scored his first Test century in the home series against New Zealand. However, it will be a different kind of challenge for Sarfaraz against a strong bowling attack in the challenging conditions of Australia.

Apart from this, talented Dhruv Jurel is also a contender to make it to the XI after his impressive performance against Australia A at the MCG. Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs in six matches at an average of 37.10 since his Test debut in February.

Apart from the century in Bengaluru, Sarfaraz had to struggle in the other five innings against New Zealand and could score only 21 runs. The 27-year-old will have to face a tough challenge against bowlers like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc on Australia’s fast and bouncy pitches.
