Controversy Over Rain Delay

Australian star bowler Adam Zampa has made serious allegations against Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib, accusing him of dishonesty during the match against Bangladesh. In the 12th over of Bangladesh’s innings, it started to drizzle, and Afghanistan’s head coach Jonathan Troon allegedly warned the players to slow down their play. Noor Ahmed was bowling and had completed four balls when Gulbadin Naib fell, bringing the physio onto the field. The match was paused due to rain, and at that point, Bangladesh was trailing according to the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) rule. After the rain stopped, Gulbadin Naib returned to the field and continued to play energetically, even being the fastest runner after Afghanistan’s victory.

Australia’s Reaction and ICC Implications

Australian players were visibly upset with Gulbadin Naib’s actions, and even Afghanistan’s captain, Rashid Khan, appeared frustrated. Although Rashid later downplayed the incident, stating that Gulbadin’s actions did not affect the outcome, such behavior could have serious repercussions. The ICC may take action against Naib for his conduct. Despite the controversy, Afghanistan emerged victorious as Bangladesh, needing 114 runs in 19 overs per the DLS method, were all out for 105 in 17.5 overs, securing Afghanistan an 8-run win.
