Foreign players, including Mohammad Harris, Aftab Alam, Mark Deyal, Miguel Cummins, and Ryan Burl, are stuck in a Dhaka hotel. BPL team Darbar Rajshahi has not made any arrangements to pay them or send them back home. Despite continuous efforts, their flight could not be arranged. Team owner Shafiq Rehman and the management have maintained silence on this issue, which has left the players stuck there.
After this incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board intervened and arranged for Mohammad Haris to leave. He is now going to leave Dhaka on Monday. According to news received from sources, the PCB has made adjustments to his travel plans. For this, the Pakistan Cricket Board contacted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). After such a major incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s negligence is clearly visible. This incident has put the Board to shame. Rajshahi has faced opposition during this entire tournament due to financial troubles.
According to ESPN.in, initially, the local players refused to participate in the practice match to get a salary. After that the foreign players also boycotted it. Due to this only local players were included in the match. Which was a violation of the league rules, it was necessary to include at least two foreign players. Although the team remained in the playoff race, they were eliminated on Saturday.
BPL’s Management Failure
Darbar Rajshahi owner Shafiq Rahman was detained for not being able to pay the hotel bills. Security personnel were seen outside his room in the pictures that went viral on social media. After this entire incident, the team changed the hotel in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Cricket Board official Nazmul Abedin Fahim has been embroiled in controversy and admitted that the board did not properly check the financial stability of the franchise before approving the entry. Bangladesh Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud has also warned Rahman. He said that the payment should be made immediately or else legal action would be taken against him.
Apart from this, a government committee will investigate how the franchise was recognized. The aim of this is to prevent future scandals that can harm the country’s cricket reputation.
