Playing in the quarter-finals of the tournament, Shardul took 6 wickets against Haryana at Eden Gardens on Monday, 10 February to give Mumbai a crucial first-innings lead.
By taking 6 wickets, Shardul also completed his 30-wicket mark in this Ranji season and Mumbai took a crucial 14-run lead. Since playing against South Africa in 2023, Shardul has lagged in finding a place in the team in all formats. Since then, he is not only out of the Indian team, but he has also not found any buyer in the Indian Premier League.

Shardul on India Comeback
Shardul Thakur, who is performing brilliantly in the Ranji Trophy, said, “It is naturally frustrating when there is no place for you in the team. And when you are not playing, sitting idle at home, you think about it more.
” He said, ‘But once I get on the field, my full focus is on the match – be it club cricket, Ranji Trophy, IPL or playing for India. Every cricket match is the same for me, no matter what level it is.”
The new World Test Championship cycle for India will begin with the tour of England in June-July and Shardul hopes to return to the team for the tour. He said, ‘Yes. I think I am a contender. The next step is to take my place in the team and get selected. This is always the goal.”
Shardul said, ‘Right now I am playing Ranji Trophy. International cricket is the highest level, which we all strive for. It is always in my mind, that the motivation to play for the country is what drives me forward. That passion, that fire, never dies.”
