Shubman Gill silenced any doubts about his form leading up to the upcoming World Cup with a brilliant century in the Asia Cup. Facing a challenging Bangladesh spin attack, Gill scored his fifth ODI century in 117 balls.
In a match where India rested Virat Kohli and were missing the injured Shreyas Iyer, Gill’s century was the standout performance. India faced a target of 268 runs but lost early wickets, including captain Rohit Sharma for a duck. Gill and Suryakumar Yadav tried to stabilize the innings with a 45-run partnership, but Gill ultimately fought a lone battle in the chase.
This century marked Gill’s fifth in ODIs and his fourth of the year. His previous centuries in 2023 were against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, and twice against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

In 2023, Gill also achieved two significant milestones. He crossed 1000 runs in ODI cricket for the year, making him the 13th Indian batter to do so in a calendar year. Additionally, he reached 1500 runs across formats in the same year, with six centuries and five fifties, including Test and T20I appearances.
