Shubman Gill on Rohit Sharma: The first match of the three-match ODI series between India and England was played on 6 February at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. England won the toss, batted first, and were all out for 248 runs in 47.4 overs. In response, India chased the target in 38.4 overs and won by 4 wickets.

Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill played a brilliant innings of 87 runs with the help of 14 fours in 96 balls and won the Player of the Match title. After the match, Shubman revealed his favourite shot during the innings and said that Rohit Sharma had told him not to hesitate to give inputs regarding batting.

Speaking at the post-match presentation after receiving the Player of the Match award, Shubman Gill said,

“I was just trying to stay positive. I felt there was something for the fast bowlers with the new ball. It was a good decision from their side (to attack). The pull I hit when I batted around 70 was my favourite. When the spinners were bowling, the pitch was a bit double-paced.

We tried to score runs on the square of the wicket. I just want to know how Rohit bhai is thinking and then give whatever input I hBhai He has told me not to hesitate to give inputs.”

Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel Also Impressed

In the first ODI against England, brilliant half-century innings were also seen from the bat of Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. India had lost two wickets on the score of 19, after which there was a 94-run partnership for the third wicket between Shubman and Shreyas Iyer.

He played a stormy innings of 59 runs in 36 balls with the help of 9 fours and two sixes. Then Akshar Patel also showed his deadly form and scored 52 runs in 47 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six.
