Shubman Gill’s Century: After a disappointing first-innings performance for Punjab in their Group C match against Karnataka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Shubman Gill made a strong comeback in his second innings. He scored a brilliant century against the hosts and celebrated his 14th first-class century.
Shubman Gill’s Brilliant Century
At the time of writing, he had reached the remarkable milestone and was dismissed shortly after, with Punjab’s score at 187 for 9 in 62 overs. Gill, who made a comeback in the Ranji Trophy after a gap of two and a half years, was the only batsman to face some of the best bowlers from Karnataka’s bowling unit. His innings included 14 fours and three sixes.
Of the 14 fours he hit, only three were on-side. All of Gill’s sixes were off-side, which was a favourite of the Punjab captain. None of his other team-mates tried for the opportunity, leaving Punjab on the brink of a big innings defeat. Except for Gill, the other batsmen failed miserably in the team’s second innings; None of them could cross the 20-run mark.

Karnataka Dominates with Huge Win
Talking about the Mayank Agarwal-led Karnataka team, their performance in the first innings led to a big win against Punjab by an innings and 207 runs. R. Smrana’s brilliant double century helped the hosts bowl out the visitors for just 55 runs and post 475.
Electing to field first on the first day, Karnataka made a big splash. The pair of Vasuki Kaushik and Abhilash Shetty took seven wickets between them.
Only two Punjab batsmen could reach double figures as they collapsed to the aforementioned meagre total in just 29 overs of the day. Before the sixth innings, Karnataka and Punjab were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
