Team India won the first-ever T20I series under Suryakumar Yadav with a 3-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka. After that, Suryakumar’s leadership is being discussed alone. Chasing the target of 138 runs for victory in the third match, Sri Lanka managed only 137 runs. So the match was tied. Sri Lanka needed 9 runs from the last 2 overs to win. When Surya bowled to Rinku Singh, everyone raised their eyebrows. But Rinku took 2 wickets for 3 runs and pushed Sri Lanka towards defeat. A Dramatic Final Match
Team India was leading the series by 2-0. So the third and final match for Sri Lanka was a prestigious one. The Lankan bowlers allowed India to reach only 137 runs and got a challenge of 138 runs. Everything was fine till the 18th over for the Sri Lankan side. But Rinku kept the 19th over Taku match in a colorful condition. Lanka now needed 6 runs off the last over to win. Suryakumar’s Bold Decision
Many were shocked when Surya bowled the 19th over to Rinku despite having Mohammed Siraj and other experienced bowlers in the team. Why did Surya do this? He was asked about this after the match. Surya told me everything about this.
“The bowling decision was easy in the 20th over, but difficult in the 19th over. Mohammad Siraj and some other bowlers were left with their quota of overs. But I thought that Rinku would be effective on this pitch. I have seen him bowling. He bowls a lot in the nets. I thought it would be appropriate to bowl to Rinku. Then I decided to take over from him.
“Why didn’t you bowl the 19th over yourself?” Ashish Nehra asked this question to Surya after the match. Surya replied with a smile. “I know the 19th over is always difficult in Indian cricket. So I gave bowling to Rinku. It’s always tough when a right-arm off-spinner bowls a left-arm batsman. Rinku bowled smartly and showed skill and made my job easy,” said Suryakumar Yadav.
