Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its 16-member squad for the two-match Test series against New Zealand. The two-match Test series is starting from 18 September. This series will be played at Galle International Stadium. Oshada Fernando has returned after a long time under the captaincy of Dhananjaya de Silva. At the same time, experienced players like Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal have been retained. Nishan Madhushanka did not get a place in the Sri Lankan Test team for the two-match Test series to be played against New Zealand (SL vs NZ 2024 Test Series), while Sadeera Samarawickrama and Oshada Fernando have returned.

Key Players and Changes in the Squad

Fernando made his Test debut in 2019 and has not played any international cricket since 2023. The right-handed batsman has scored 122 and 80 runs against South Africa A. His innings in this match helped the Sri Lanka A team win. Samaravikrama was not part of the Sri Lankan team that recently toured England, but he was included in the team for the Test series against New Zealand. He is expected to strengthen the team’s mid-order if he is included in the playing 11.

Ramesh Mendis has also got a place in the team, who has taken 63 wickets in 14 Test matches. During this, his best bowling figure was 6/70.
