Sri Lanka Cricket Board Membership Suspended: Exclusion from ICC Tournaments

On Friday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) immediately suspended Sri Lanka Cricket Board’s ICC membership. The board was found to breach its responsibilities, facing issues with autonomous management and government interference. The ICC Board will decide the suspension terms later. Sri Lanka is now barred from participating in any ICC tournaments.

In the ongoing ODI World Cup in India, Sri Lanka won only 2 out of 9 matches, ranking 9th in the points table. Consequently, they couldn’t qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka dissolved the Sri Lanka Cricket Board following a defeat by India. An Interim Cricket Committee, led by former Sri Lanka captain Arjun Ranatunga, is now responsible for cricket operations in Sri Lanka.
