Sri Lanka ODI Squad for Zimbabwe Tour 2025: Sri Lanka has announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, which will begin on August 29. The tour will feature two ODIs and three T20 matches, all scheduled to be played at the Harare Sports Club.
One of the major talking points from the squad announcement is the absence of star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Who continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Hasaranga had also missed the T20 series against Bangladesh in July, and his fitness remains a concern ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
Charith Asalanka Named Captain for Zimbabwe Series
Strong batsman Nuwanidu Fernando has also returned to the team. He played his last ODI in November 2024. Charith Asalanka will lead the team. All five matches will be played at Harare Sports Club. Immediately after the Zimbabwe tour, Sri Lanka will be seen directly in the Asia Cup 2025, where it has been placed in Group B of the tournament. In this group, they will face Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong.
A Look Back and What Lies Ahead
Sri Lanka last played a limited-overs series against Chevron in November 2008. During that series, they achieved a remarkable whitewash, winning all five matches. Kumar Sangakkara scored a total of 182 runs, while Ajantha Mendis took 15 wickets and Muttiah Muralitharan captured 11 wickets in just four matches, contributing to the visitors’ outstanding performance.
The Sri Lankan squad also includes Milan Rathnayake. Who has scored a century for Sri Lanka A against Australia, and has also been performing well in club tournaments for quite some time, due to which the 22-year-old has made his place in the team.
