Sunil Gavaskar’s Big Statement on Star Players
Some made headlines on their return to domestic cricket, while others disappointed the fans again with their performance. On the other hand, former Indian cricketer and well-known cricket commentator Sunil Gavaskar has made a big statement about the return of big players of Team India in the Ranji Trophy. Gavaskar has said that hopefully, it will become a habit, not just a box-tick practice.
In one of his recent columns in Mid-Day, Gavaskar said that the Indian team’s players may have participated in the Ranji Trophy only to tick the box of ‘what should be done’, as the BCCI insisted. By doing so, they brought new energy to the national championship. Even though they may not have been able to make a successful comeback in the tournament, their presence would have excited their teammates and their opponents.

A New Habit, Not Just a Formality
Gavaskar further said- Hopefully, for the stars of India too, meeting those with whom they would have started their Ranji Trophy career, great memories of friendship and struggle to climb to the top would have been refreshed again.
The stars of India may not have had great success individually in the Ranji games played last week, but they have taken the Ranji Trophy to the level that the national championship deserves and for this, they deserve all the praise. Let’s hope that this becomes a habit of the big players and not just a box-ticking practice.
