Indian Squad for T20 World Cup 2024 Announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 on April 30. Rohit Sharma was made the captain of that team and Hardik Pandya was made the vice-captain. Many famous players including Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Sanju Samson have been included in the team.

Shivam Dubey’s name is also included in this. Dubey has scored 396 runs in the IPL 2024 season. He also scored 3 half-centuries in this season. Captain Rohit Sharma had made it clear that Dubey has been selected on the basis that apart from power hitting, he can also bowl in the middle overs. But after being selected for Team India, Dubey’s performance has been very poor.

Shivam Dubey’s Struggles Raise Concerns

Before the announcement of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, Shivam Dubey had scored 350 runs in 9 matches in IPL 2024 at an excellent average of 58.33. The good thing was that he was batting at a tremendous strike rate of 172. Dubey looked to strengthen India’s middle order. But Dubey has failed in the last 5 matches in the league stage.

Shivam Dubey has scored only 46 runs in the last 5 matches, with his highest score being 21 runs against Gujarat Titans. In the last 5 matches, his average has fallen from 58.3 to 36. Dubey was unable to carry the burden even as CSK desperately needed a win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the match against RCB, Dubey played 15 balls, in which he could score only 7 runs.

Potential Replacement: Rinku Singh

The ICC has allowed the teams participating in the T20 World Cup to make changes to their team till May 25. In such a situation, Shivam Dubey’s poor performance can get him out of the team before the start of the World Cup. If this happens then the biggest question will be which player will take his place.

Rinku Singh has not been selected as one of the 15 players for the World Cup, but has been named among the reserve players. In the last year, Rinku has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 in T20 matches for India. His inclusion will bolster the middle order of the Indian team.
