T20 World Cup: South Africa Defeats Bangladesh by 7 Wickets, Marches Toward Semifinals

South Africa Ends Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Journey

Bangladesh’s challenge in the Women’s T20 World Cup is over. Hopes were high after winning the first match. But after that, they have to face defeat in three consecutive matches. Bangladesh was trying to sweeten the ending by winning the match against South Africa. But nothing like that happened. After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first. This decision was exactly like the heart of South Africa. Something also happened later in the match. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 106 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs and challenged 107 runs for victory.

South Africa completed this challenge in 17.2 overs. South Africa beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets and 16 balls to spare. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana expressed his feelings after the match. “The way we started in the powerplay was not good. When you don’t get a good start in the powerplay, it gets tough. We tried to build a partnership, but we played a lot of dots. I have many young players on my team. Marufa and Shona bowled brilliantly in Rabeya’s last 4 matches. We can take a lot of positives forward and we will reflect on what went wrong after we won the first game.

South Africa Captain’s Reaction

South Africa captain Laura Wollward said, “It’s really good to get the win, the way we started with the ball was excellent. We would have liked to have chased it a little sooner, we tried. A message came up that was sent but didn’t get there. But winning is the main thing. We will wait for the other results and hope we have done enough to book a place in the semi-finals. Cappy is incredible with bat and ball and her economy rate today was fantastic.”
