Australia’s Strong Start in Warm-Up Match

Australia defeated Namibia by 7 wickets in the warm-up match of T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the match between Bangladesh and hosts USA was called off due to bad weather. In the match held in Port of Spain, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first. Namibia batted first and scored 119 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Australia achieved the target in 10 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.

Warner’s Return to Form

David Warner (54*), who was struggling with poor form in IPL 2024 for Australia, hit an unbeaten half-century. Australia will now play the second practice match against West Indies on 30 May. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Namibia’s Struggle and Australia’s Bowling Prowess:

At one point, Australia had sent 7 players to the pavilion for 75 runs of Namibia. After this, wicketkeeper-batsman Jane Green, who came to bat at number 8, managed to take Namibia past 100 runs by scoring 38 runs. Along with Jane Green, number 9 batsman Malan Kruger (18) and number 10 batsman Davis VJ (12) contributed. Adam Zampa took the highest 3 wickets for Australia. Josh Hazlewood took 2 wickets. Tim David and Nathan Ellis took one wicket each. Kruger and VJ are out.

Australia got off to a good start chasing the target of 120 runs. Captain Mitchell Marsh and David Warner shared a 39-run partnership for the first wicket. Mitchell Marsh was dismissed after scoring 18 runs and Jos English scored 5 runs. After this, Warner and Tim David shared a 46-run partnership to bring the team closer to victory. After David (23) was out, Warner along with Matthew Wade (12) led his team to victory. Warner completed his half-century in 20 balls.

Looking Ahead

The T20 World Cup will be held in the US and the West Indies from June 2 to June 29. Australia’s first match is against Oman on June 6, followed by a match against England on June 8, and matches against Namibia and Scotland on June 12 and 16, respectively.
