Bangladesh has announced its 15-member team for the 2023 World Cup, set to commence on October 5. The team will be led by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, with Nazmul Hossain Shanto serving as the vice-captain. Notably, veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal has not been included in the squad.

Tamim Iqbal, a player who had retired from ODI cricket a few months ago, later surprised everyone by reversing his retirement decision the following day. Unfortunately, he missed the Asia Cup 2023 due to a back injury. Although he had initially stepped down as captain of the Bangladesh ODI team, he regained fitness ahead of the World Cup. However, he has not been selected for the team. Tamim did take part in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. In addition to Tamim, Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain could not recover in time for the World Cup.

For Bangladesh, the batting lineup will be led by Mushfiqur Rahim, Nazmul Hussain Shanto, Liton Das, and Shakib. The fast bowling duties will rest with Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmood, and Tanzeem Hasan. The responsibility for spin attack will be shouldered by Shakib, Mehdi Hasan Miraj, and Nasum Ahmed. Bangladesh’s first World Cup match will take place on October 7 against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. Before that, the Bangladesh team will play practice matches against Sri Lanka and England in Guwahati.
