WPL 2024: Roger Binny and Jay Shah Lead New Committee to Boost Women’s Cricket Development

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday formed an eight-member committee headed by president Roger Binny to promote the development of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). 

Binny will be the chairman of this committee while BCCI secretary Jai Shah has been made the convenor. 

Other members of the committee are Arun Dhumal (Indian Premier League President), Rajeev Shukla (BCCI Vice President), Ashish Shelar (BCCI Treasurer), Devjit Saikia (BCCI Joint Secretary), Madhumati Lele and Prabhatej Bhatia.

All of them will work closely with stakeholders, players and sports fans to create a competitive environment in the WPL. The auction will be held in Mumbai on December 9 ahead of the WPL 2024 season. 
The dates and venues for the second phase of the league are expected to be announced soon. A total of 165 players have registered their names for the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction.
However, only 30 players out of 165 will be selected in the auction. The five franchises will be able to buy only 30 players in total, as they don’t have more than that in the squad.
Each franchisee has to spend Rs 17.65 crore in the upcoming auction. However, there is still no information about when the next Women’s Premier League season will start. The first season of WPL was won by Mumbai Indians defeating Delhi Capitals.

Fans can watch the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction live on Sports 18 on TV. The live streaming of the auction will be on the Jio Cinema app. 
Out of the 165 players registered for the auction, 104 are Indians and 61 are foreign players. 15 players are also from Associate Nations. Out of 165 players, 56 are capped and 109 are uncapped.
