WPL 2025: The BCCI has finalized the window for the upcoming IPL starting on March 14, 2025. After finalizing the IPL schedule, BCCI is now gearing up for WPL. According to the reports coming out recently, it has come to light that there is a plan to start the Women’s Premier League (WPL) before the IPL. According to this, WPL can possibly be started in February 2025. It is expected that it will be held between February 6 and March 9, 2025.
However, these dates are not fixed yet. These can be changed. According to a report by Cricbuzz, BCCI has told the franchises the possible starting date.
WPL 2025: Lucknow-Ahmedabad can get hosting:
Similar to the dates, the venue is also not fixed yet; there is a possibility of change in that, too. BCCI has not yet made a final decision on the venues for the WPL matches. But according to reports, Lucknow and Ahmedabad are at the forefront of the hosting race.
There are many reasons behind this. Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru were considered suitable venues for this, because of each franchise. But Mumbai’s cricket schedule is very busy, and neither Delhi nor Bangalore will be suitable for the game at that time.
So now all eyes are on the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But there is still doubt about this. It is not certain whether it will be available for the entire tournament. In such a situation, Lucknow seems to be the best option for hosting.
Finalizing the WPL championship match between March 7 and 9 is another key task for the BCCI because it will allow a brief gap before the start of the IPL season on March 14.
For those unaware, the tournament will see five teams competing in a round-robin format. It will feature 22 matches. Notably, Royal Challengers Bangalore will start the tournament as the defending champions.
