WTC Point Table: The Indian cricket team suffered defeat in the fourth Test match played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia won this match by 184 runs. This defeat has dealt a severe blow to India’s hopes of reaching the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

India desperately needed a win in this match to reach the final, but Team India failed miserably at the MCG. After India’s defeat, there have been changes in the WTC points table.

India needed 340 runs to win. Team India had a full day. If its batsmen had stayed on the wicket, India could have saved this match and drawn it.

However, the veteran batsmen of the team kept failing. Yashasvi Jaiswal fought alone, but he did not get support from the other end. In the end, he too became a victim of the wrong decision of the third umpire.

WTC Points Table Update

Australia has strengthened its claim for the final with this win. After defeating India, Australia has 118 points after 10 wins and four losses in 16 matches and the points percentage is 61.46. This team is at number two after South Africa.

South Africa has already qualified for the final. The Indian team is at number three. It has 114 points after nine wins and seven losses in 18 matches. Its win percentage is 52.78. There is a difference of approximately 9 per cent in the points percentage of Australia and India. Before this match, India’s points percentage was 55.88. Whereas Australia’s was 58.89. That is, there was a difference of about three per cent between the two which has now increased.

India’s Slim Chances

However, India’s dream of playing in the final is not over yet. Team India can still reach the title match. For this, it will have to play a strong game and also hope for a miracle. India will first have to win the fifth and final Test match starting on January 3 in Sydney.

If Team India succeeds in this task, then it will have to pray that the Sri Lankan team defeats Australia 2-0 in the two-match Test series. This task is not easy for Sri Lanka.
