Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Sehwag’s Record, Becomes Third Fastest to 50 in Tests

Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his half-century with an aggressive innings in the first innings of the second Test against Bangladesh, breaking the record previously held by Virender Sehwag.

The Indian team’s young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, was in aggressive form against Bangladesh. He scored 72 runs from 51 balls with a brilliant display of batting. His innings included 12 fours and 2 sixes. By completing his half-century in just 31 balls, Jaiswal broke the record of former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Fifty Record:

Jaiswal has now jointly recorded the fastest half-century for India in Test cricket, equaling Shardul Thakur, who also completed his half-century in 31 balls against England in 2021. Virender Sehwag had previously reached his half-century in 32 balls against England in 2008. As for the fastest half-century for India, the record is held by Rishabh Pant, who achieved this in 22 balls against Sri Lanka in 2022.

The Indian team started their innings with a bang. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted aggressively, adding 55 runs for the first wicket. India set a new record by completing 50 runs in just three overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Rohit Sharma in the fourth over after he scored 23 runs from 11 balls, including one four and three sixes. India went on to score 100 runs in just 10.1 overs. Jaiswal was bowled by Hasan Mahmud in the 15th over, taking India’s second wicket.

Indian bowlers showcased their prowess on the fourth day of the Test match, dismissing Bangladesh for 233 runs in their first innings. Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep took two wickets each, and Ravindra Jadeja claimed one wicket. Bangladesh, playing at 205 for six after lunch, lost their last four wickets for just 28 runs. Mominul Haque was the top scorer for Bangladesh, remaining unbeaten on 107 runs from 194 balls, with 17 fours and one six.
