Minnu Mani’s Inspiring Journey

Women’s Premier League has given a good platform to women cricketers. Minnu Mani’s reaction after receiving a bid of 30 lakhs in the Women’s Premier League auction grabbed everyone’s attention. “I have never seen Rs 30 lakh in my life. I have no words to describe how I am feeling right now,” Minnu had said. She was picked up by Delhi Capitals

The journey from a laborer’s daughter from Garudzepawaynad to the Women’s Premier League and the Indian team was not easy for Minnu Mani, who hails from a tribal home. Minnu’s father used to support his daughter with a daily wage. When Minnu was 10 years old, she started playing cricket with her brothers in the paddy field. Started taking sports seriously in class VIII. At that time she was studying in a government school in Idapaddy. Alsamma Baby, the physical education teacher of the school, first recognized Minnu’s talent and took her for selection trials for the Wayanad district under-13 team. But Minnu’s father opposed him to play cricket. In time Minnu’s stubbornness won her father’s heart and he encouraged her to go ahead.
