James Anderson Sets Record in 5th Test Against India
In the ongoing fifth Test match between India and England in Dharamshala, James Anderson, the seasoned English bowler, has etched his name in the record books. Anderson achieved a significant milestone by becoming the foreign player with the highest number of Test matches played in India, marking his 17th appearance.
Surpassing Derek Underwood’s Record:
James Anderson surpassed the previous record held by England’s Derek Underwood, who had played 16 Test matches in India. Anderson’s remarkable feat highlights his longevity and enduring impact in international cricket. His consistent presence in the English lineup has made him a stalwart in the challenging conditions of Indian cricket.
Joe Root Follows Suit:
While Anderson leads the chart, his teammate Joe Root is not far behind. Root is participating in his 15th Test match in India, further emphasizing the enduring connection between English players and Indian cricket. The Dharamsala Test match witnessed Root contributing to England’s efforts as they faced the formidable Indian team.
Apart from the record-setting appearances, James Anderson is on the verge of another historic achievement. The 41-year-old pacer is just two wickets away from joining the elite club of bowlers with 700 or more Test wickets. If Anderson manages to secure these wickets in the ongoing Test match, he will become the first fast bowler to achieve this remarkable feat.
As of now, only two bowlers, Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets) and Shane Warne (708 wickets), have entered the exclusive club of 700 or more Test wickets. Anderson’s potential accomplishment would add a new dimension to his illustrious career, solidifying his status as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the history of Test cricket.
